Hreflang Checker
List a page's hreflang alternates and catch invalid codes, a missing x-default, and missing self-reference.
What is hreflang?
Hreflang tags tell Google which language and region a page targets, so the right version shows up for the right searcher. They power international SEO, but they're easy to get wrong: invalid codes, a missing x-default, or alternates that don't point back at each other all break the cluster.
- Use ISO codes: language only (en) or language-region (en-US, pt-BR).
- Add x-default for the fallback/selector page.
- Every page should reference itself, and all alternates must point back (return links).
Note: this tool reads the hreflang tags on the URL you enter. Full bidirectional return-link validation means crawling every alternate, which a manual spot-check or a crawler handles.
Running international SEO?
Hreflang is fiddly at scale. I set up and audit multi-language clusters that actually serve the right pages in the right markets.
